No Schedule For Film

When times are good and when times are bad, there is always enough time to watch a film! Personally I watch films on a daily basis. All different types of films, ranging from comedy to horror, from family to drama, all kinds of films to suit all kinds of moods. Films have no schedule so they’re available at any time and any hour. A perfect source of entertainment to match anyone’s schedule.

Film Festivals

What better way to share freedom of expression? Film festivals give artists the chance to share they’re art in a carefree environment where nothing is judged and everyone can form personal opinions. From contests, to free art, film festivals happen all over the world. Year after year film festivals help aspiring artists get noticed, or even just help them get some ideas of they’re own. In my opinion film festivals are always for the better. Gatherings of people that come out with open minds and recognize talent and art. Most festivals are for specific topics or genres. Deciding which one to attend is the best question of all. I hope to go see one for myself in the near future.

The Tale of Heath Ledger

Born on April 4th 1979 in Western Australia Heath Ledger was born for success. For years and years Ledger Acted in Large amounts of amazing movies. But his life took a serious turn when he was asked to play the part of the joker in the Dark Night. Being the second Batman movie ever made the pressure was on to be as good as the first. Jack Nicholson (The jokers of the 1st Batman movie) stressed to Ledger that he better not mess this part up. Because according to Nicholson he barely deserved it, this intensified the load of pressure. In desperate need to get into character Ledger would go to the heart of New York to watch crimes and see for himself how the real ones were done. With all the stress Ledger found it hard to get a good night sleep. So he reported to his doctor, and got a prescription of sleeping pills. Unsure how affective they would be, night after night ledger would take these pills to get a good rest. Then on January 22nd 2008 these sleeping pills overloaded his system and managed to kill him. No one knows exactly how many he took or all the circumstances at hand but everyone knows this was a very tragic day. On July 16th The Dark Night was released and won many awards. But Health Ledger will always be remembered.

And The Grammy Goes Too...

Every year the Grammy’s come on TV for everyone too see. Filled with awards, performances and thousands of celebrities, the Grammy’s is always a sight to see. Although I find it hard to overlook the pattern of awards received by celebrities. It seems as if, they receive 3 awards or none at all. Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Black Eyed Peas were up for at least 3 and won at least 2. While others such as Lil Wayne received no nominees or awards. I guess the vote is a quite a bias opinion. With out a say we just continue on our everyday lives watching the same old awards with the same old people, but every year they still happen to seem just as good. A milestone in the entertainment business I cant wait to see what happens in 2011.

Plagiarized Avatar?

There has been a lot of talk that the multi-billion dollar movie Avatar was a stolen idea. Ten years ago Poul Anderson sent out his movie idea Call Me Joe to various studios. One studio happening to be the one James Cameron was at. With no response from any studios. Time progressed and out came Avatar. Anderson noticed the remarkable resemblance when the previews hit. When the film was released, Anderson watched in aw that his movie idea had been created. Enraged he took Cameron to court and the results of outcome are still unknown by public.

Way to many reality TV shows

In our world today it seems to be necessary to keep up with others lives and drama. There are over 45 reality TV or soap opera shows on Canadian TV alone. From completely made up drama on a show like Gossip Girl to “real life” drama on a show like The Hills girls all over the country get sucked in to watch every week. The mind-bottling thing is, how did these shows get so popular? Why are they the shows with the most viewers? 2010 took a series fall into the “reality TV” when the famous Jersey Shore came on to screen. A show about un-respected women and player type guys do what they want when they want. With no sense of remorse to others. Not only do these shows represent awful things, but also they promote teens to act that way. Jersey Shore party themes became overly popular. Encouraging girls to dress provocative and boys to grease up their hair till it shines… the fact that no one found this to be peculiar astonishes me.

Twillight a tale to remember

First came the books and then the movies. With 4 books in total, it is said that there will be 4 movies to follow. So far they have produced twilight, new moon, and eclipse is coming soon to theaters! The real question is will breaking dawn be made into a movie? My thoughts are yes, personally I loved the Twilight movies but I have yet to read the books. Apparently the movies did not do the books justice, which turned many people away from enjoying the movies to full extent. Either way I believe that this style of movie is hard to create and extremely hard to truly capture the major moments of forbidden love. For those of you who do not know, Twilight is a series about two lovers who can never be accepted as one because one is a vampire and the other is a human. A forbidden love story is one to remember. :) <3

A Breakthrough In Film

Doesn’t everyone want the effect of the movie theatre in his or her own home? Perfect lighting, sound, picture. Now Kodak has made that very possible. The scientists from Kodak have come together to create Vision2 500T color negative 5218 film, a breakthrough in imaging technology. The major accomplishment of this breakthrough was aimed at new technicalities and an innovative design leading up to produce a new type of paint for the cinematographer’s pallets and an improved place for optical/digital post-production. The light in films is a very important factor that must be as thought out as any other aspect. The Kodak scientists have created tabular grain also known as T-Grain in 1980. This creation is used to gather light more efficiently. The smaller grains compromise the quality. So the benefits of speed are still clear. The grains improve ability to capture scene detail in low-light conditions or increased depth of field. This creates a high-speed color negative camera origination film. Kodak has also achieved longer linear latitude, improved image structure, increased shadow detail and rendered a more natural look to the colors and flesh tones. Using T-Grain to their advantage the Kodak developing team incorporated the technology into all three-color records. This allowed them to achieve the fastest speed yet EI500. The ability of these new T-Grain emulsions is used to capture and process photons more efficiently and allows for more photographic speed with reduced crystal sizes. Just when you think it cant get any better the design team incorporated Kodak’s patented two-electron sensitization technology. This technology doubles the number of electrons and enhances the speed performance of the film and adds to the stabilization of the latent image. Giving better results with more detail in low-light scenes and extended depth of the field. Further down the line advanced development accelerators improved the color dye formation process. This allows the latent image sites on the exposed silver halide crystals to be easier located by the developer. When the latent image is amplified, the oxidized developer reacts with the couplers in the film to create a dye record of the new image. Producing more dye density in each of the developed silver. These technologies optimize the silver and coupler loads in a color record. Scattering is accounted for, and consistent sharpness can be maintained. The combination of all these new technologies results in a high-speed film with a new and improved structure. Viewing the result in a whole new look when watching movies, television programs and commercials.

Van City

Proud to be a citizen of Vancouver, it is said to be one of the biggest growing film locations in the world. With films schools right and left, I can’t wait to see which one I attend in the near future. Vancouver film school is one of the most world-renowned universities for film and it just so happens to be 20 minutes away from my house. Vancouver has grown as a city, creating thousands of opportunities throughout the lower mainland. Pixar for example is known for its one location in Emeryville California. Pixar is a computer animation studio used to create major productions, and has been around for ages. Now Pixar is opening its second location in our very own Vancouver! As time progresses Vancouver grows, and so do I. The time, city, schools, opportunities and myself all grow as one. Matching up perfectly.
